"In A Box"
On this page you'll find information about Paton's short film, "In A Box", filmed in New York City and premiered at the SoHo International Film Festival February 2010.
Plot:
"In A Box" follows Anika, a loner and a painter whose past is a long string of messy relationships. Her continuing lack of openness and honesty has made her believe she can only hurt others; therefore, she has decided to stop seeing men. This story begins when she is approached by Chris, an optimistic, kind man, who, despite what she has told him, is set on being with her. Their relationship twists and turns with another man, Peter, and by the end of it, Anika must find out if she can break the endless cycle of destruction with a choice that will change their lives.
Why?
By comparing her relationships with two completely different men, this piece deals with status and dominance in relationships, and how there is no longer a set expectation of who is "masculine" and "feminine", "weak" or "strong".
Also, by continuing her psychological pattern of ruining love in her life, Anika constantly hurts those closest to her. This story is about reinvention; through realizing her weaknesses, she is given the opportunity of changing herself for the better.
